Submit Items to the History Committee
-
Thanks for checking out our history page. The history book
committee is encouraging you to submit a story about you or your
family and their ties to Oklee and the surrounding area.
-
Once again we are attempting to put together a history book of
Oklee and the surrounding townships. We very much want to hear
from you and tell us the story of your family.
-
We would like pictures, especially pioneer pictures from the
earlier days of Oklee. We will be able to scan the pictures and
return them to you. We know how valuable pictures are and would
like to include as many as possible in our book, while also
making sure the are promptly returned to you so they are not
lost or damaged.
-
Thank you for helping to make our history book and centennial a
success!!
History Night June 2008
- Last week the Oklee Centennial History Committee held
another History Night. The evening was cool and rainy, but it
didn't dampen the spirits of the committee members. Many of them
were in attendance and enjoyed the event.
- However, it was somewhat disappointing to have very few
other than history members present. The last time a History
Night was held it was a roaring success with many from around
the communities of Oklee in attendance. Not to say a few didn't
come and give us some very interesting photos and stories for
use in the upcoming History book and more recipes came in. And a
box of a great number of old books documenting the Griebok post
office (which was located where Leif Fore lives now) and
Independent School District 58 (sometimes referred to Roadside
School in the books) was given to the History Committee to use
for their displays. A few other items were borrowed to the
History Committee to make a display of Oklee High School
graduation announcement from many years ago.
- So even though only a few came out the History Committee
feels pleased with the items that were brought in for our use.
- If you have items that you would like to share with the
History Committee please feel free to call a member listed on
the website or email them. If you would like to bring in an item
for scanning or use in displays, please contact Bonny Cote at
the Oklee Herald Office on Thursday or Fridays to make
arrangements.

Meeting Minutes April 17th, 2008
- The History Committee met at the meeting room in the Oklee
City Building with 11 members present.
- First order of business DEADLINES were discussed.
Overall deadline for the History Book is November, 2009. We
would like church histories in and done by July, 2008,
townships by September, 2008. Personal histories will keep
coming.
- We need people willing to go interview people. This is
a big job and we need manpower. Other jobs are going
through old papers and typing in information. Researchers
and typists are needed!
- We are planning another History Night at the Oklee Hall
on June 10th. People may bring pictures to be scanned and
share stories as well as have a lunch.
- Still looking for a history museum.
